Is my quilt insured?
We are not financially able to carry insurance and it is up to you to insure your work while it is in our possession. We do our very best to take care of your quilt, and see that it receives the utmost consideration while in our possession, but we do not insure your quilt. A lot of folks think they are covered by their household insurance or by the insurance of the venue, but I have to say that a lot of venues don't carry insurance, and we can't make them do that. And Your quilt WILL NOT be covered by your homeowners' insurance while it is in a quilt show. Some of the shippers -- U.S.P.O., UPS, Fed Ex -- may NOT cover your quilt in the event of a loss if you don't have it appraised PRIOR to shipping. From the values people put on their own quilts, it is better in any event to have a piece apprased after you have put the money and time into it. No insurance company is going to just dump huge amounts of money in your lap without proof of existence of the piece existed and that in fact you have had it appraised.
If an appraiser has to do an after-the-fact evaluation, the maker of a quilt, unless extremely well known (major publications, major teaching, established sales record and major awards, etc.), generally will receive just the cost of materials from the insurance company.A release statement is on the mail in entry form that states that you are aware of this fact as a participant of our challenges. This is all part of being a fiber arts and entering events.
Why are there size restrictions?
The quilt challenges are limited in size as this helps in keeping shipping costs down. Storage of quilts is easier if the quilts are all under a certain size. And many venues can not handle a big selection of large sized quilts. This gives us more options when looking for venues. It also adds to a more uniform quilt show when the quilts sizes are all in a certain size range.
How should my quilt be labeled?
name of your piece,
size of the piece,
date completed,
your full name,
your mail address,
your phone number,
your e-mail
and website if you have one. This can be put on a small piece of fabric using a permanent sharpie and then sewn onto the back corner of the quilt. No quilt should be shipped to us without this label. We will not attach labels for you and your quilt will be returned to you.
What is the difference between single shows and traveling shows?
Single shows versues traveling venues: now here's the difference between a single show and traveling venues.
Single shows: The quilt gets there, is taken out of the box, is hung, is
taken down, and comes home again.
Traveling venues: The quilt arrives, may wait for a short time for the
venue, and generally the quilts are shipped altogether in "group boxes" to
the venues. There may be one box, but your individual boxes are NOT
shipped. This is a requirement of the traveling venues to keep all the quilts from one
exhibit together, and also to save on postage.
